The AWS pages we checked on October 11, 2026 list no standing coupon-code program for certification exams. They list ongoing routes, each with conditions: a 50% voucher for certified people, Student Rewards for verified students, bulk vouchers for employers, and reimbursement for US veterans. They also list 2026 campaigns that have closed to new entrants. Below: who qualifies, what has ended, and how to check an offer before you pay.

Current AWS discount and voucher options
The table below reflects AWS’s own pages as read on October 11, 2026. Each route has conditions, and none gives every reader a free exam. Closed campaigns are covered in a separate section further down.
| Route | Who it is for | What AWS says | Conditions to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50% certification-holder voucher | People who already hold an AWS Certification | 50% off the exam price, usable for recertification or any other exam | AWS pages we read give no expiry period or per-certification count |
| Student Rewards | Verified students aged 18 or older at eligible higher-education institutions | A $100 AWS Certification voucher at the 21-badge milestone, for a Foundational exam (confirm which exam when you claim it), plus other rewards earlier | Not automatic: verification, a profile and 21 badges are required. One voucher per student |
| Bulk exam vouchers | Employers and training teams | Buy vouchers from Pearson and assign them through a portal | No discount rate is stated |
| US veteran exam reimbursement | US veterans covered by a GI Bill with an education provision | The VA can reimburse exam fees | A reimbursement after you pay, not a lower price |
| AWS Academy educator voucher | Educators only, at AWS Academy member institutions (not individual students) | AWS says educators may request a 100% discount voucher | We did not find the request conditions on the pages we read |

What an AWS exam costs before any discount
AWS lists exam fees by level: $100 for Foundational and Business exams, $150 for Associate exams, and $300 for Professional and Specialty exams, in US dollars. Taxes may apply, and a fee covers one exam attempt. AWS also lists local-currency prices for some countries.
Understand the options
The 50% voucher for certified people
AWS lists a 50% discount voucher as a benefit of being AWS Certified, “to apply toward recertification or any other exam.” AWS’s FAQ and its recertification policy say you find it in the Benefits section of your AWS Certification Account.
How it works, according to AWS:
- It is 50% off the price at the time you buy the exam. AWS says a voucher meant to cover 50% is valid for 50% off the exam price at the time of purchase.
- It is single use. AWS says vouchers, whether partial discount or full value, are valid for a single use and can be used with Pearson VUE unless the voucher says otherwise.
- You cannot extend it. AWS says voucher expiration dates cannot be extended.
What the AWS pages we read do not say: how long the 50% voucher stays valid, how many vouchers you receive per certification, or whether it can be combined with another offer. If you cannot find your voucher under Benefits, ask AWS Training and Certification support rather than relying on a third-party answer.
This voucher is a benefit for people who are already certified. It does not lower the cost of a first exam.

Students: Student Rewards, AWS Academy and the Emerging Talent Community
Three AWS programs are easy to confuse. They work differently, and only one of them is clearly open to individual student readers today.
| Program | Who it is for | Exam voucher? | Status on October 11, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Student Rewards (AWS Builder Center) | Individual students verified through SheerID | Yes, one $100 voucher at 21 badges | Launched August 20, 2026. AWS pages we read give no end date |
| AWS Academy | Higher-education institutions that become members, and their educators and students | AWS says educators may request a 100% discount voucher, and institutions may request a 50% voucher that redeems to students at 100% of the value | Institution-level membership. Students cannot join on their own. Request conditions not found |
| Emerging Talent Community | Badge-eligible students who finish an AWS Academy course and are invited | AWS lists “discounted” exam vouchers as a possible reward, “subject to change” | We could not confirm that an exam voucher is currently available |
How Student Rewards work
AWS announced Student Rewards on August 20, 2026. According to AWS’s Student Rewards page and Builder Center FAQ:
- Who can join. You must be at least 18, currently enrolled in an eligible institution, have a free AWS Builder ID, and complete student verification through SheerID. AWS excludes some countries and regions; the FAQ lists them.
- What you earn first. After you verify and complete your profile, AWS gives 12 months of Skill Builder premium access.
- What unlocks the voucher. You earn badges for actions on Builder Center, such as publishing articles, commenting and keeping streaks. At 7 badges you get $10 in AWS Credits, at 14 badges $20 in credits, and at 21 badges a $100 AWS Certification exam voucher.
- What the voucher covers. AWS’s Student Rewards page calls it a “$100 AWS Certification voucher” and its launch post calls it a Foundational exam voucher, without naming an exam. The Builder Center FAQ names exams inconsistently: two answers say it is redeemable toward AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, and its voucher-use answer says Cloud Practitioner or AI Practitioner, covering the full fee up to $100. Confirm the eligible exam shown when you claim or redeem the voucher before you rely on it. You claim it manually, apply the code when you schedule the exam through the AWS Certification portal, and have up to six months from the claim date to use it. It is single use and issued to the verified student.
- What it does not cover. Each student can earn one voucher. AWS says replacement vouchers are not issued for a failed attempt, and the retake fee is the student’s responsibility.
- If you graduate. Verified status lasts 11 months and can be renewed. AWS says rewards you already earned are honored, but new rewards stop when you can no longer re-verify.
So this is not a free exam for every student. It needs verification, a profile and 21 badges, and it applies to a Foundational exam, not any exam you choose. Rewards cannot be transferred, sold or shared, and AWS says doing so violates the Builder Terms and may lead to suspension.
AWS Academy and the Emerging Talent Community
AWS Academy membership starts at the institution, so an individual student cannot join on their own. AWS’s Academy FAQ says educators may request a 100% discount voucher for AWS Certification exams. It also says institutions may request a 50% discount voucher that redeems to students for 100% of the value. Those vouchers are managed through the institution, so ask your school or instructor whether it has requested any.
The same FAQ says badge-eligible students who finish an Academy course are invited to the Emerging Talent Community. It says community points can be redeemed for rewards “like digital backgrounds and discounted AWS Certification Exam vouchers,” and that all rewards are subject to change. We could not confirm that an exam voucher is currently available through the community, so do not plan around it without checking AWS.
Understand the options
Employers, teams and US veterans
Employers and teams
Organizations can buy AWS exam vouchers in bulk from Pearson and assign them to team members through an online portal. AWS’s page describes the program but does not state a discount rate. We did not find AWS pages describing event, partner-program or support-plan voucher offers, so this guide does not cover them.
US veterans
AWS says it worked with the US Department of Veterans Affairs so exam fees can be reimbursed under any GI Bill with an education provision. According to AWS’s veterans page, a qualifying veteran schedules an exam, then applies using VA Form 22-803. The VA can reimburse up to $2,000 toward an exam fee, and training courses and practice exams are not reimbursable. Active-duty personnel are not eligible, according to AWS.
This is a reimbursement condition, not an exam-attempt limit. The same page says retakes of the same exam are reimbursed if you wait 14 days between attempts and do not retake the same exam more than three times in any 12-month period. It attributes this to AWS’s standard retake policy. AWS’s retake policy page does not mention a three-attempt figure and says there is no limit on exam attempts. If you plan more than one retake, confirm the reimbursement conditions with AWS or the VA first.
Understand the options
Can an AWS exam be free?
Not as a standing benefit for everyone. The AWS pages we read describe two routes that can fully cover an exam fee for readers who qualify, and one closed route that still applies to people who already qualified:
- Open: a verified student who earns the Student Rewards voucher can cover a Foundational exam, up to $100 (confirm the eligible exam when you claim it).
- Open, by circumstance: an employer can pay, and a US veteran can be reimbursed after paying.
- Closed, existing participants only: if you already passed AI Practitioner with the closed AI campaign’s code, you can take a free Cloud Practitioner exam until November 30, 2026 (details below).
A free practice resource is a different thing from a free exam. AWS lists free Official Practice Question Sets and Exam Prep courses on Skill Builder, while full-length Official Practice Exams need a subscription.
Know the rules
Campaigns that have closed to new participants
AWS publishes the terms of its voucher campaigns on one page. As of October 11, 2026 it lists two 2026 campaigns. Neither accepts new participants. Each still matters for people who already took part.
| Campaign | Who can still use it | Dates AWS lists | Conditions AWS lists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q2 2026 Professional or Specialty exam voucher with free retake | People who bought a prepaid voucher before June 30, 2026 (16:00 UTC) from the Pearson-AWS store | First attempt by December 31, 2026. Free retake by April 30, 2027 | The voucher covers 100% of the first attempt. Only the first failed attempt gets one free retake of the same exam version. Pearson VUE exams only |
| AI Practitioner 50% offer with free Cloud Practitioner | People who used the campaign code and passed AI Practitioner by September 30, 2026 | Free Cloud Practitioner exam by November 30, 2026 | A campaign promo code was required. The free exam applies only after a pass. Pearson VUE exams only |
Both campaigns share terms: one offer per customer and account, ages 18 and older, no combining with other offers, no transfer or resale. AWS also says it can modify or cancel an offer at any time.
AWS’s certification FAQ says it regularly offers discounted vouchers as part of global certification challenge promotions, and points to AWS Partner Network newsletters for alerts. Campaign codes change with each campaign, so this guide does not list any. If a website shows a “current” code for a campaign that is not on AWS’s terms page, or whose dates have passed, treat it as unconfirmed.
Know the rules
Retakes, rescheduling and expiry: the rules that cost money
- Standard retake rule. If you fail, you must wait 14 calendar days. AWS says there is no limit on attempts, but you pay the full registration fee each time. After you pass, you cannot retake the same exam for two years, unless a new exam version exists.
- Free retakes. The only free retake on the campaign terms page we read belongs to the Q2 Professional or Specialty campaign. It covers the first failed attempt of someone holding a qualifying voucher, and the campaign is closed to new entrants (retake by April 30, 2027). The Student Rewards voucher does not include a retake.
- Rescheduling. According to AWS’s before-testing policy, you can reschedule up to 24 hours before your appointment, and each appointment can be rescheduled twice. A third change means canceling the exam and booking a new date.
- Canceling. Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and AWS says it refunds the exam fee you paid. Within 24 hours you cannot cancel or reschedule, and AWS says the test delivery provider charges the full delivery fee with no refund. If you may need to change your plans, act before the 24-hour cutoff; check the illness or emergency exception below if it applies. For documented personal illness or unforeseen emergencies, AWS says the provider will waive the fee and allow a reschedule; contact Pearson VUE to request it.
- Voucher expiry. If you paid with a voucher, AWS tells you to check its expiration date before changing your registration, because expiration dates cannot be extended.
Check and choose
Coupon codes and voucher offers: how to check one before you pay
AWS says campaign promotions follow published terms and the AWS Certification Program Agreement (source). Those terms are the benchmark for any offer you find elsewhere.
How AWS describes redeeming a voucher. Campaign terms say the voucher is redeemed during scheduling at checkout through Pearson VUE. AWS’s Student Rewards FAQ says you apply the issued code when scheduling through the AWS Certification portal. A voucher bought in AWS’s store on Pearson VUE comes with a voucher number by email that you use to register for your exam. In each case the code or number is entered when you book. The AWS pages we read do not describe any step that requires sharing your account password.
Then run through this checklist:
- Find the campaign on AWS’s voucher campaign terms page. If the campaign is not listed there, or its dates have passed, the offer is unconfirmed.
- Check where the code is used. The AWS sources above show codes and voucher numbers being entered at checkout when you schedule. Our advice: be cautious about a site that wants payment in exchange for a campaign promo code, because AWS ties campaign codes to its own campaigns.
- Never share your AWS account password. This is our advice, not an AWS quotation. A voucher is redeemed by entering a code or number when you book, so anyone who asks for your login is asking for more than that.
- Get the expiry date in writing. AWS says expiry dates cannot be extended.
- Ask which exams the voucher covers. Get the exam name or level in writing, and confirm it can be used when you schedule through Pearson VUE.
- Compare the terms with a reference. Vouchers sold in AWS’s store on Pearson VUE are valid for 12 months from purchase, can be used only for Pearson VUE exams, and sales are final. A seller with different terms should state them clearly.
- Ask who is selling it. Look for a business name and contact details. A price below AWS’s listed fee is not proof of a problem, but ask how the discount works and what terms come with it.
AWS’s campaign terms say campaign offers are non-transferable and may not be resold, and its Student Rewards FAQ says the same of student vouchers. AWS does not address, on the pages we read, whether vouchers bought from other sellers are accepted. Check the exact voucher terms with the seller before you buy.
Check and choose
Where AWS says to buy vouchers
AWS describes Pearson VUE as an AWS authorized reseller and distributor of AWS Certification exam vouchers. AWS’s certification FAQ also names Xvoucher alongside Pearson VUE as authorized third-party websites for team voucher purchases. AWS’s exam voucher page names Pearson.
EvolveSkill is an independent seller of exam vouchers. AWS does not list EvolveSkill on the pages we read, and EvolveSkill is not affiliated with or endorsed by AWS (see our Disclaimer (opens in a new tab)). If you choose to buy from us, check the product page for the exam version, delivery and validity terms and compare them with the checklist above. See the AWS exam vouchers we sell (opens in a new tab).
Check and choose
Avoid paying for a second attempt
Under AWS’s standard policy a retake costs the full fee again, and the one free-retake campaign is closed to new entrants. Use the preparation guides below to check your readiness before booking; preparation cannot guarantee a pass. These guides cover the decisions that come first:
- Pick the right exam level first: which AWS certification to start with (opens in a new tab).
- See every current AWS exam and its level: the AWS certifications list (opens in a new tab).
- Build a study plan and use the free AWS resources: the AWS exam preparation guide (opens in a new tab).
AWS says full-length Official Practice Exams are a highly recommended step before you attempt the exam, and they require a Skill Builder subscription.

Frequently asked questions
Does AWS offer a discount on certification exams?
AWS lists an ongoing 50% voucher for people who already hold an AWS Certification, bulk vouchers for organizations, a reimbursement program for US veterans, and a Student Rewards voucher for verified students. The pages we read on October 11, 2026 list no standing coupon-code program.
How do I get the 50% AWS exam voucher?
Earn an AWS Certification, then look in the Benefits section of your AWS Certification Account, as AWS’s FAQ describes. AWS says you can use it to recertify or for any other exam. AWS pages we read do not state its expiry period, so check the voucher itself.
Is there an AWS coupon or promo code that works right now?
We could not confirm one. AWS campaign codes belong to dated campaigns, and the two 2026 campaigns on AWS’s terms page are closed to new participants. Check that page for any new campaign, because AWS says it regularly runs discounted-voucher promotions.
Can I take an AWS certification exam for free?
AWS does not provide a free certification exam automatically to everyone. Some people can qualify for full exam-fee coverage: verified students who earn an eligible Student Rewards voucher, people who qualified for the closed AI Practitioner campaign and take the free Cloud Practitioner exam by November 30, 2026, and candidates whose employer pays the fee. Qualifying US veterans may also be reimbursed after paying. The student voucher applies to a Foundational exam, but AWS’s pages do not name the eligible exam consistently, so confirm the exam shown when you claim or redeem the voucher.
Can students get a free AWS exam voucher?
Some can, but not automatically. Verified students aged 18 or older at eligible institutions can earn a $100 voucher through AWS Student Rewards by completing a profile and earning 21 Builder Center badges. AWS’s pages name the eligible exam differently, so confirm it when you claim the voucher, which is valid six months from the claim date. The program is for eligible institutions, and AWS lists countries and regions that are excluded.
What is the difference between Student Rewards, AWS Academy and the Emerging Talent Community?
Student Rewards is for individual verified students on Builder Center. AWS Academy is institution-level, and AWS’s Academy FAQ says educators and institutions may request exam vouchers. The Emerging Talent Community is a separate Academy-linked program whose exam-voucher rewards AWS says are subject to change.
Does AWS give a discount or a free retake if I fail?
Standard AWS policy has no retake discount: wait 14 calendar days and pay the full fee for each attempt. A free retake exists only for eligible participants in a campaign that includes one, and the 2026 campaign that did is closed to new entrants.
Can I use, transfer or extend a voucher?
AWS says vouchers are valid for a single use and that expiration dates cannot be extended. Campaign terms and the Student Rewards FAQ say offers and rewards are non-transferable and may not be resold. Check the expiry date before you reschedule an exam paid with a voucher.
Do vouchers from other sellers work?
AWS does not say, on the pages we read, whether vouchers from sellers it does not name are accepted. It names Pearson VUE, and its FAQ also names Xvoucher. Ask any seller for the exam level, expiry date and terms in writing, and use the checklist above.
Can I combine offers?
AWS’s two 2026 campaign terms say offers may not be combined with other offers. The pages we read do not say whether the 50% certified-holder voucher can be combined with anything, so check before you rely on it.
Are US veterans eligible for reimbursement?
AWS says qualifying US veterans covered under a GI Bill with an education provision can ask the VA to reimburse exam fees for exams taken after December 10, 2015. Active-duty personnel are not eligible, and training and practice exams are not reimbursable.
How much does an AWS certification exam cost?
AWS lists $100 for Foundational and Business exams, $150 for Associate exams, and $300 for Professional and Specialty exams, in US dollars, plus any applicable taxes. A fee covers one attempt, and AWS also lists local-currency prices for some countries.
